Firefly watermark remover

What the Adobe Firefly image watermark remover does

Firefly doesn't paint a logo across its output. What it attaches is Content Credentials: a signed C2PA manifest riding in the file's metadata, declaring which tools touched the file and whether a model generated the content. That manifest is what this app removes.

Drop an image into the upload control and it runs through our media workflow, which parses the file, locates the Content Credentials record, strips it and returns a copy without it. The file is genuinely uploaded, because the record lives inside the file and can't be removed without opening it.

Before you start

Two different jobs share the phrase Firefly watermark

Search results for this split down the middle, so check which problem you actually have before uploading anything.

A visible mark on the picture
Something you can see and would paint out with a selection and a content-aware fill. That's an image edit, and this app isn't it.
An invisible record in the file
Content Credentials. You can't see it, but a checker reports it. This is what Firefly actually attaches and what this app removes.
How to tell which you have
If you can point at it on screen, you want an editor. If you can't see anything but a credentials checker still finds something, you're in the right place.

Workflow

How to remove a Firefly watermark in three steps

One pass through the upload control, then one check.

Step 1
Use the original Firefly file, the one that still carries the metadata Firefly attached, not a screenshot or a re-compressed copy.
Step 2
Drop it into the box above. The workflow reads the file, finds the Content Credentials manifest and strips it.
Step 3
Download the result and run it through the Firefly watermark detector on this site to confirm no manifest remains.

Mechanics

Where the Content Credentials record is stored

The manifest isn't mixed into the picture. It sits in the part of the file container built to carry data alongside the image: an APP11 marker segment in a JPEG, a dedicated ancillary chunk in a PNG, a dedicated chunk in a WebP. Pixels in one place, record in another.

That separation is why this is a metadata operation rather than a retouch. Nothing gets painted over or reconstructed, because the thing being removed was never part of the image. It's also why the record disappears by accident so often: anything that writes a new container writes it without the old record unless it deliberately carries it across.

Stated honestly

What removing Content Credentials cannot do

Most remover pages skip this section. A metadata strip removes metadata. Here is everything it leaves exactly where it was.

Anything encoded in the pixels
A signal carried in the image data itself survives untouched. Removing a manifest is not a pixel operation.
Google's SynthID
A different scheme, woven into the image rather than attached to it. It needs a different technique and has its own route on this site.
Anything held outside the file
This acts on the file you upload. It has no reach over records kept elsewhere, or over copies already published with the manifest intact.
A visual classifier's verdict
Systems that judge an image by how it looks aren't reading metadata, so removing metadata doesn't change what they see.

Context

Why credentials vanish without anyone removing them

Most files that reach a checker with no manifest were never deliberately cleaned. Screenshots rebuild the picture from the screen and carry nothing across. Format conversion, recompression and most upload pipelines write a fresh container and leave the old record behind.

Two useful consequences. A Firefly image you pulled off a social platform may already report nothing, so check before you bother removing anything. And a detector finding nothing is weak evidence rather than a clean result, because stripping happens constantly by accident.

Straight answer

Does this make the image untraceable?

No, and this app won't claim it. What happens is narrow: one declared record is removed from one file. That's the whole scope.

Copies already posted somewhere with the manifest intact still exist exactly as published, and stripping now doesn't reach backwards. If you want a file to travel without its credential, strip it before the first upload rather than after. No page here promises a particular verdict from any checking tool either, because those belong to other companies and change without notice.

Who it's for

Who removes a Firefly watermark and when

Ordinary reasons, plus one caution worth reading.

Designers finishing client work
Delivering a final asset without an editing-tool manifest attached, once the piece is approved.
Marketing teams
Cleaning metadata before an asset enters a brand library with its own tagging conventions.
Anyone reusing their own image
Stripping an old tool-chain record before repurposing an image they made and hold the rights to.
A caution about rights
Remove marks from images you own or have permission to modify. Licence terms, including the terms attached to whatever generated the image, govern what you can do with a file.
FAQ

Everything answered. Firefly watermark remover questions

How do I remove the watermark from a Firefly image?

Drop the original file into the box on this page. Our media workflow strips the Content Credentials manifest and returns a copy without it.

Is my image uploaded?

Yes, to our own media workflow, because the record sits inside the file and has to be opened to be removed. It isn't published or shared.

What exactly gets removed?

The Content Credentials manifest: a signed C2PA record naming the tools that touched the file and declaring whether a model produced the content.

Will this remove a visible watermark from the picture?

No. This app is scoped to the metadata record. A mark you can see on the image is an editing job.

Where is the manifest stored in the file?

In the container rather than the picture: an APP11 marker segment in a JPEG, and a dedicated chunk in a PNG or WebP.

Does removal affect image quality?

The record isn't image data, so this is a metadata operation rather than a retouch. Nothing is painted over or reconstructed.

Will the cleaned file still open everywhere?

Yes. Removing a metadata record doesn't change the image format or how the file opens.

Does this make the image untraceable?

No. It removes one declared record from one file. Copies already published with the manifest intact are unaffected.

Can anyone still tell it came from Firefly?

Possibly. A metadata strip doesn't change how the image looks, and anything judging the image visually was never reading metadata.

Does this remove SynthID?

No. SynthID is carried in the image itself rather than attached to it, so it needs a different technique and a different route.

Does cropping or resaving strip it too?

Often, yes, as a side effect. Many edits and exports write a new container and leave the old record behind.

Can I stop Firefly writing credentials in the first place?

That's Adobe's setting, not ours. Pages covering this report that Firefly output carries credentials automatically, which is why people remove them afterwards.

How do I confirm the manifest is gone?

Run the cleaned file through the Firefly watermark detector on this site. It reports whether any manifest is still present.

Is there a size or format limit?

Ordinary photo files process without issue. A very large export just takes longer.

Is it free?

Yes, and no account is required for a standard removal here.

Can I use a screenshot instead of the original?

A screenshot usually has no manifest to remove, since screenshotting doesn't carry the original file's metadata forward.

What if the file has no credentials at all?

Then there's nothing to remove. Already-stripped copies and files that went through a re-encoding pipeline often arrive without one.

Does this work on video?

No, this route covers images. There's a separate route on this site for Firefly video.

Does it work on Photoshop generative fill output?

Generative fill can attach the same kind of Content Credentials, and the same metadata removal applies.

Does removing metadata change ownership?

No. Ownership is a licensing question, answered by the terms attached to the file rather than by its metadata.

Is removing Content Credentials legal?

It depends on the rights you hold and the terms attached to the image. Remove marks from files you own or have permission to modify.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, the upload control and the workflow both work in a mobile browser.
