The job
What the DeepSeek GPTZero checker gives you
This DeepSeek GPTZero checker is a step you run before you hand work in, not a verdict machine. Paste a DeepSeek-assisted draft and it comes back with a written account of the patterns that make the text read as machine-written, pointing at the passages that carry them.
Set expectations first. It is not GPTZero and we are not affiliated with GPTZero, Turnitin, Copyleaks or Originality.ai. It does not produce their score and cannot predict it. It is a server tool, so your text goes to our AI server, one run takes up to 12,000 characters, and you get 5 runs per rolling 24 hours with no account.
The workflow
How to check a DeepSeek draft in three steps
Build this into the gap between finishing and submitting, where there is still time to act on what comes back.
- Step 1
- Paste the draft, or one section of it if it runs long.
- Step 2
- Run the check and note which passages it names.
- Step 3
- Rewrite those passages yourself, then read the whole thing aloud.
The question
Does GPTZero detect DeepSeek writing?
The published answer is yes, and both detector vendors say so with numbers. GPTZero's February 2025 benchmark across 1,000 human and 1,000 AI documents reports 99.8% accuracy with a 0.01% false positive rate, and notes DeepSeek required no retraining to be caught. Originality.ai, testing 150 DeepSeek-Chat samples, reports 99.3% recall for its own models and 97.3% for GPTZero.
Those figures are published by the companies selling the detectors, so treat them as marketing that happens to be checkable rather than neutral research. The part worth carrying into your workflow is simpler: assume AI-assisted text is identifiable, and plan around that rather than around a trick.
After the check
What to fix first when the checker flags your draft
Work down this list. The first three change how the text reads more than anything else you can do in an hour.
- Sentence rhythm
- Break a long sentence in two, join two short ones. Uniform length is the loudest signal there is.
- Announced transitions
- Delete any sentence whose only job is to say what the next paragraph will cover.
- Template paragraphs
- If every paragraph opens by naming its topic, rewrite the openers as claims.
- Repeated connectives
- Count how many times moreover, furthermore and additionally appear. Cut most of them.
- Specifics
- Add a real example, number or name. Generic writing reads as machine writing.
- Your own asides
- One genuine aside or hesitation does more than a paragraph of synonym swapping.
If you are accused
What to do when human writing gets flagged
It happens, and the vendors admit the rate rather than the experience. A 2.2% false positive rate sounds small until it is your essay. Careful, formal, well-edited prose is exactly the kind most often misread.
- Keep the history
- Version history in your document editor is the strongest evidence you can produce, and it only exists if you did not paste the whole thing in at once.
- Keep the notes
- Outlines, reading notes and abandoned drafts show a process.
- Do not degrade your writing
- Adding errors to look human is a bad trade and does not reliably work.
- Use the report
- Knowing which passages carry signals lets you explain them rather than guess at the objection.
- Ask for the basis
- A detector score is a signal, not proof of authorship. It is reasonable to ask what else the claim rests on.
The cause
Why DeepSeek drafts carry strong signals
DeepSeek's models establish a structure before writing, and that structure surfaces in the finished prose as an even rhythm and explicit signposting. Those are precisely the properties a classifier measures, which is why the drafts tend to read as machine-shaped regardless of subject.
There is no marker hidden in the words. The evidence is the writing, so editing is the only thing that changes it. That is worth knowing before you spend time looking for something to strip out.
The honest answer
Will a clean report mean I pass GPTZero?
No, and we will not suggest otherwise. Two different systems reading the same text can disagree, and we have no access to theirs. A clean report here means this tool found fewer signals, nothing more.
Short text is the other limit worth knowing. Under a few hundred words there is not enough variation to measure, so the result is a hint. And whatever any tool returns, check your institution's AI policy separately, because a report does not change what the policy says.
In practice
When to run the DeepSeek GPTZero checker
Before submission, when the draft is finished and editing is still possible. Editors use it on freelance copy that arrived reading oddly. Teams use it to understand why a piece feels flat before rewriting it.
It is not useful mid-draft, and it is not a substitute for reading your own work. The report tells you where to look, then you do the work.
